On the 24th of October Nolan was 3 days old and Ben and I were feeling like we were having our Babymoon with our son. We decided to go out for a little bit with Nolan and be a “family” having fun. On the way Nolan was a bit inconsolable so we swung into an empty parking lot to check his diaper…sure enough it was time. On the road again, we made a stop at Babies ‘R Us where we were able to use some gift cards we’d been given. Otherwise I’m pretty sure we might have had to take out a 2nd mortgage just to pay for one shopping cart of stuff. Don’t be fooled by baby items being small…THEY COST! Ben wore Nolan in one of our baby carriers- the Snugglewrap.

It seemed scary to be taking out our little baby only 2 days old, but we had to go for our visit to the pediatrician for her to check his weight and make sure he was looking healthy, which of course he was. Nolan doesn’t look too happy about his time in the car seat- sorry baby boy but we gotta keep you safe!
You can just take a look at Ben’s face and see that both him and I have been through the wringer with this birth- while I won’t state for the record that I labored for a total of 106 hours….I labored for 106 hours– in my mind this is true because from the start to finish of this period I was experiencing contractions, escalating pain, hardly slept, hardly ate, hardly drank, and finally, finallllly gave birth to our beee-ute-iful baby boy, Nolan, the traditional way, except for a little help from an epidural and pitocin.
These few precious days where Ben has not had to be at work are truly a treasure- he has been able to be so involved with his new son and they’ve been taking a number of naps together.

This is our darling baby boy, born Wednesday October 21, 2009 at 12 noon. He weighed 8 lbs., 6 oz., was 22 inches long, and had a head circumference of 37 centimeters. He had a little cry like the baahing of a lamb and he sounded like he felt a little traumatized from mommy’s long and difficult labor. The way he was little whimpering cry was, Ben and I both thought that this little guy was going to grow up to be a man with feelings- just like Ben. That makes me happy as I think we need more sensitive guys in the world. I happened to catch one of the few.
