No more highchair

Nolan appears to be “graduating” from things very quickly- we already got rid of his crib (see new scenario above) a couple of months ago when he was like 13 months- we just set his mattress on the floor and he sleeps all night now since 14 months and comes padding in to us in the morning. We started using the crib when he was 4 months old so that means he only got 9 months use out of it. He just seemed to do better behaviorally with this new set up as he seems to have an independent personality (I don’t know where he gets it- I certainly don’t know anyone who’s like that). Smile. Oh- I’m digressing, but this book we’ve started reading him in the photo above- it’s a Dr. Suess that had a rythym to it when you read it- he’s fascinated with it and after I finished reading it the other night before bed, he took the book and sat there and started pretending to read it by going “car car car car car car car car car.” It was adorable.
Back to graduating from things, more recently, Nolan kept sliding out of his highchair (I didn’t put the belt on too often because it’s so covered with gunk it’s disgusting and it doesn’t detach to wash) and then climbing up onto our regular dining chairs and wanting to eat the table in those chairs. So we figured why not? He seems to be managing fine, so that’s another bulky item we’ve gotten rid of a la courtesy our neighbors who love free stuff- all you have to do is put something you don’t want out on the curb and it will be gone within the next 48 hours.
He still makes a huge mess, but now it’s all over the chair, floor and table instead of the highchair tray, floor, and highchair seat. Honestly it’s actually quicker for me to wipe up now, so I like the change too. He’s also learning to use a regular cup and having fun with that. Sometimes he does great getting it down his mouth, and other times he dumps the whole cupful of water all over himself- although I suspect it’s on purpose anyway.
