Yep, we have 99 cent thriftstore bin that has a permanent residence in the middle back seat, full of various books both fiction and nonfiction and Nolan spends pretty much all of every car ride anywhere, whether short or long, reading silently to himself. He’s been doing this for the past 6 months or so, since about a few months past turning 5 years old. He really does love to read!
Which reminds me of a funny story, maybe I’ve told it before- that when Nolan was like, oh I don’t know, 4 months old, I was ALARMED when my baby would NOT sit still to let me read him a book! I thought to myself, ‘what’s wrong with my child? He has ADD! He’s going to hate to read! This is terrible!’
Hilarious to reflect on now. What was I thinking? 4 months old man, c’mon! #firsttimeparentsyndrome
Current nonfiction:
children encyclopedia stuff on nature, the earth, the human body, natural disasters, space etc.
Current fiction:
Various kids books- berenstein bears, etc. and Geronimo Stilton series.
It is just our personal family choice that video games are not allowed in our home (or car!) :)-
While on one our first kayak excursions at Pinecrest together, Nolan spent quite awhile climbing along the rocks and outcroppings along the lake and having a temporary food stand against a tree. Thankfully my favorite, fries, were in stock!
I am trying to maintain a balance between my fear at seeing him climb around on these big boulders with the realization that he is getting older and really is quite capable. Still, it scares me!! I keep saying “be careful be careful!” and “nolan, don’t go there! Don’t go any higher! Wait for me!” He really is pretty cautious though, he’s just not a wobbly two years old anymore. Hard for me to believe still.
